I started volunteering in 2013 after I had recently lost my dad to melanoma and my mom four years earlier to cancer as well. I wanted to find a way to prevent anyone from feeling as hopeless and angry as I did at that moment, as well as finding a way to do something positive and impact change and research towards this disease.
What was one weekend of volunteering has become a transformative seven years. To me, Pelotonia weekend brings excitement, hope, and triumph – and no better place to witness all three than at the 100 mile finish at Kenyon College. After volunteering at rider check-in, I became a lead volunteer three years ago and seeing returning riders and volunteers makes me incredibly proud.
