Colleen O'Shea became involved with Pelotonia in 2012 and photographed the ride each year as a volunteer photographer. Her sister and brother both ride, while parents, sister, and in laws, nieces and nephews are the cheering squad and volunteers as well. You could say it has become a family affair.
She got involved with Pelotonia after her cousin Ryan was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in 2007 and passed away in 2008. No parent should ever have to bury a child and no person should have to hear the dreaded words, “you have cancer." THIS is why they got involved. Pelotonia is not just a ride...it’s personal.
Each year they try to come up with new ways to fundraise, whether it’s making t-shirts or doing a 100% match day of donations received. This year, with the Coronavirus Pandemic changing everyone’s lives and plans, Colleen wanted to come up with a new fundraiser. They talk on the news about how it will be a dark winter, so she wanted to bring some holiday cheer to those involved with the organization, while still helping raise awareness of Pelotonia. Teaming up with the Pelotonia staff, we were able to create the Pelotonia Holiday Sweater which features different symbols of Pelotonia. Cancer doesn’t stop because of a pandemic, so neither could we. She hopes those who rock this sweater, can spread some holiday cheer and awareness of this awesome organization.
