Selena’s Story:
I am an 8-year rider and the captain of Team Buckeye: Alumni and Friends. I started riding as a way to give back to The James after my dad was treated for colon cancer there and went into remission in April of 2016. My dad was my biggest cheerleader and my closest confidant. He instilled in me that there was nothing I could not accomplish if I “just kept trucking” and sent me out to tackle the world. My Dad never missed a finish line, no matter how sick he was. He taught me to always show up for people. Sadly, the colon cancer returned and he passed away on November 7th, 2019. I am incredibly grateful for the extra time that The James gave us, but it would never be enough. I ride to show up for my Dad and the countless others who have been impacted by cancer and fundraise for research so that no one else has to cross the finish line missing a loved one.
